About

We are a Distance Learning Studio for everyone to tell their story on the internet.

The Storybook Theatre of Hawaii is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation whose main organizational purpose is to create, produce and distribute educational children’s programs that focus on building stronger families and local communities through literacy, health, and wellness, peacemaking skills, and personal character development.

Since 1997 Storybook Theatre has been producing the "The Russell the Rooster Show" on Kaua’i. The half-hour broadcast television program provides quality family entertainment with an educational flavor and is targeted at families of young children 0 -8 years old. Other regular program offerings to the Kaua`i community include the annual Princess Ka`iulani Keiki Fest, the Touring Educational Whale and Dolphin programs, Professional Development and Parenting with the ‘Birth of a Family Video Series’, the Read Across Kauai Literacy Day Event, as well as live musical and storytelling performances and peace education for groups of visiting schoolchildren. Visit our website and social media for all upcoming events.

History

Storybook Theatre of Hawai`i is a 38 year-old corporation that was founded by people who recognized the need to present good stories to young people in creative ways. The organization provides educational programs that are developed by professional artist educators through venues of the arts, radio and television media, and live events. In 1995 members of Storybook Theatre assumed a 55 year lease from the DLNR on the historic Sun Ke Heong/ Obatake building in Hanapepe Kaua`i that had been nearly destroyed by Hurricane 'Iniki in 1992. Eight years later the building had been restored and became the home of the theatre and its programs. In 2006 Storybook Theatre won a Grant-In-Aide from the Hawaii State Legislature to design and create the Spark M. Matusnaga International Garden For Peace. Opened in 2012, the garden contains the world’s only life sized statue of former US Senator Sparky Matsunaga and is dedicated to his vision of World Peace.
